Am I a Fraud to my Profession? Absolutely Not!

What if I told you that you didn’t need to cut out anything in your diet to lose weight?

What if I told you that you could feel more confident about your diet without having to stick rigidly to a prescribed list of foods?

What if I told you that your gut could be so much happier without you having to sacrifice anything?

I can tell that people can’t quite work me out sometimes...!

I tell them I’m a Nutritional Therapist and then they watch me accept a little sugar with my tea, relish a beautiful cut of beef at a restaurant and savour a glass of red wine alongside it.

Am I a fraud to my profession? Absolutely not!

I’ve just learnt a few things which I’ll briefly outline for you now:

  1. I’ve learnt to listen to my body. Every tiny signal is registered, listened to and respected. In essence, I’ve learnt to be friends with my body – I don’t fight it or abuse it anymore. That’s on the physical front. But I’ve also learnt to nourish my soul and truly enjoy life’s pleasures and sometimes that means enjoying the things that technically aren’t ‘super healthy’ but they can nourish the spirit and the emotions and that is important too. It’s a balance and once you find that balance, it makes you incredibly happy and healthy.

  2. I learnt to breathe. Or rather, re-learnt how to breathe! For years I just didn’t breathe well at all. So much so that one physio actually had to remind me to breathe whilst trying to manipulate the muscles in my back! Shallow breathing was the norm for me for so long that it became subconscious. I think it stemmed from those ghastly years as an overly-body conscious teenage when I permanently tried to hold my breath so that my stomach appeared flatter. Little did I know how much damage that alone could do. Learning to breathe properly helps soothe many a problem, from digestive complaints to headaches to confidence issues.

  3. I learnt how to laugh at the self-sabotager monster that permanently resided in my mind. That monster is pure poison! Learning to re-wire thought patterns and rooting out the negatives in your mind physically changes things inside you on a chemical level and without you even changing anything in your diet, positive results start taking place. Life is for living. Every day is precious and I came to the conclusion that I wanted to enjoy all the culinary delights this world has to offer and never feel like ‘I shouldn’t’ or ‘I couldn’t’. I didn’t want to be a slave to feeling guilty the whole time so eventually I chose abundance, not limitation. I chose to accept that I deserved abundance and deserved to be truly nourished.

  4. I learnt that excess is a killer. Excess is what upsets that fine balance. This is where most people trip up. You can indeed have too much of a good thing!! Learning to not over-indulge is about learning to listen to your body’s signals, respect your body and act accordingly. You don’t need to go without. You can enjoy those treats but as the age-old saying goes, “a little goes a long way”.
