Shifting Weight with the Shifting Seasons

Autumn can’t be a good time to lose weight right? We naturally want to eat a bit more so that we start ‘consolidating’ for the harsher winter months. A green salad for lunch? No thanks. Soup and a hunk of bread with some of that delectable cheese? Much better! You’re right, Autumn is – overall – not the best time to lose weight because it is not the easiest time, not, perhaps, the most ‘natural’ time to lose weight.

But listen, do you want to play the ‘quick fix, crash & burn’ game or do you want to play MY game - the long game - the slow-burner, the one where the tortoise in the end wins the race... I’m only interested in those of you who actually want long-term changes and the ones that will put all their chips on the table and play the long-game. It’s far more interesting and guarantees success in more areas than you can imagine!

🍁 The Autumn Equinox has been and gone. But autumn is definitely here. 🍁

Yesterday my feet crunched over fallen leaves for the first time (ok, fine – it was more like sludging over!) and today I smelt that incense like sweet smokiness in the air. I smiled to myself because the magic has begun...

It’s magical because it starts slowly. It is subtle and wraps itself around you like a fine ultra-soft woollen stole. What happens in autumn is akin to something spiritual - nature starts to slowly fold itself away but we somehow start to spiritually awaken. People tend to stop, rest on a bench perhaps, taking a moment to wonder at the change of colours, just listening and observing quietly. Something about this time of year makes you reflect and now the craziness of the summer has faded, it seems easier to do just that. We have a little more time perhaps to go within and that’s when our subconscious peeps its head above the parapet and we see things a little more clearly. We have those realisations. We listen and take heed to some of those callings. The season is changing and so must we.

Autumn and Spring are the two best times to give yourself some attention, some self-care and shift things around. Both are times of change. This is the season to reflect on what you might want to change in order to support your body, support your emotions, your needs and actually implement those changes.

But there is no handbook for this. Not one that is unique to you. So that’s where I come in. Creating a diet and lifestyle roadmap for you personally is my niche. It’s what my calling was and it’s why I love my job.

Let me tell you, almost every client of mine has weight-loss on the agenda alongside other issues they want to address. But it quickly becomes a secondary focus (as it should) because once we start looking at the whole picture that is ‘you’ and start working on other issues, the weight issue often takes care of itself. Maybe slowly, yes, but weight shifting happens because it is usually a result of other factors. And the weight shifts when the body is ready to let it go – and that may well be in spring-time when the body is in a more natural position to do that, but if you didn’t start the process NOW – if you didn’t start the work on yourself and your health NOW, it wouldn’t be shifting so effortlessly once spring does arrive. Rome wasn’t built in a day. It was built brick by brick.

Don’t wait until spring to do something about it. This is a pivotal time in the seasonal calendar to start a new journey. Start making some foundational changes that will set you up for some real physical changes come spring...

I’ll leave you with my thought of the day: The people that play the long game are the smart ones.

As the saying goes – “He who laughs last, laughs longest”
